Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh al-Hefny announced that his ministry has made a strategic decision to keep Egyptian airspace open during exceptional circumstances when neighboring countries would have closed their airspace.
He explained that this reflects the Egyptian state’s commitment to maintaining air traffic and ensuring uninterrupted commercial flights, reflecting Egypt’s leadership and ability to face challenges.
During his participation in the 12th meeting of the Extended Executive Committee of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC), held in Guatemala City, Hefny added that Egypt, being fully aware of its international responsibilities, has been committed to implementing the highest international standards for civil aviation.
This policy reflects the principles of safety, security, and cooperation, enhances trust between countries, and encourages the expansion of regional and international cooperation in this field, he said.
He added that this supports Egypt’s position on the international stage and embodies its active role in the global civil aviation system.
The minister explained that the LACAC’s role is truly pivotal, as it aligns its regional initiatives with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization, contributing to enhancing the efficiency and security of air transport at the regional and international levels.
The LACAC comprises 22 member countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Peru, Uruguay, Guatemala, and others.
It plays a prominent role in discussing technical, legal, and political issues related to the aviation industry in Latin America and the Caribbean.
