Cairo, April 07 (QNA) - Following their talks in Cairo on Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, stressed the importance of an immediate return to the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid, and the rejection of any calls for the displacement of Palestinians.
In a joint press conference with Macron, El-Sisi said their talks tackled the importance of reconstructing the Gaza Strip and coordinating with France to hold a conference on reconstruction following the ceasefire deal, pointing out that they pushed back on any calls for displacing the Palestinians from their territories. He added that the talks reviewed the Arab plan for Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction and agreed on coordinating joint efforts on this conference that Egypt intends to host immediately after the cessation of hostilities in the Strip.
Achieving enduring peace and stability in the Middle East would remain out of reach as long as the Palestinian cause remained without a just settlement, El-Sisi outlined, indicating that he discussed with Macron avenues for launching a credible political horizon to revive the peace process and establish the Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in addition to the situation in Syria, Lebanon, and Sudan, as well as the regional developments in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa.
For his part, Macron asserted that France backs the Egyptian position that rejects the displacement of the Palestinians from their territories, stressing that he strongly pushes back on the forced displacement of Gazans and the annexation of Gaza and the West Bank, as these acts constitute a violation of international law and pose a dire threat to the security of the region. He reiterated his support for the construction plan adopted by the Arab League in late March.
Both presidents signed a joint declaration to elevate the level of the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership, in addition to several agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries. (QNA)
