Eid al-Adha events happening across Cambridgeshire for 2025
@Source: cambridge-news.co.uk
The Muslim community across Cambridgeshire will have already started their preparations for celebrating Eid al-Adha this year. The celebration is expected to start on Friday, June 6, and will end on either Sunday, June 8, or Monday, June 9, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Eid al-Adha remembers the sacrifice made by the Prophet Ibraham (Abraham) when he was asked to sacrifice his own son to God. When he agreed to proceed with the sacrifice, he was rewarded for his obedience with a ram to slay instead.
The ritual sacrifice of an animal is called Qurbani, where worshippers would fund the slaughter of an animal and share the meat with the poor who could not participate in the event. Qurbani is now usually carried out via donating to a charity online to feed disadvantaged communities around the world.
