Elche’s tourism industry has marked a significant milestone this June, with its hotel occupancy reaching over 90%. This puts Elche on par with major tourist hubs like Benidorm and highlights the area as an increasingly important destination in the Alicante province and the Costa Blanca.
Challenging Benidorm’s Lead
According to the Association of Tourism Businesses of Elche (AETE), Elche’s June occupancy was close to Benidorm’s high season average, which falls between 90-95%. This is also well above the Costa Blanca average, which is 82.5%.
Growth in La Marina Resort
Despite hotel occupancy having slightly declined in Elche’s city centre, La Marina Resort area has seen substantial growth, which has balanced the overall numbers. Additionally, the average price per hotel room is €4.30 higher than in 2024 – signalling an improvement in Elche’s tourism accommodation profitability.
Increase in Day Visitors
Hotel occupancy doesn’t capture all tourism activity, though. Between January and March 2025, Elche’s domestic and international day visitors increased by five and seven per cent, respectively. More than just an overnight destination, Elche has become a hub booming with cultural, nature, and heritage tourism.
A Promising Season Ahead
Elche’s hotel data from June reflects its growing appeal as a tourism hotspot, and the strong occupancy and rising room rates signal confidence in the city’s tourism sector. This, combined with Elche’s boost in day visitors, sets a positive tone for the rest of the 2025 high season.
