Emma Raducanu has been playing well on clay this season but she is yet to settle a row that had with Andy Murray at the 2024 Wimbledon Championship. The 22-year-old says she still feels bad about what happened with the British legend and hopes to get a chance to sit down with Murray and have a conversation at the French Open.
Their row began last year, ahead of Murray’s farewell at Wimbledon; he underwent a minor back surgery, which forced him to sign up for only the men’s doubles and mixed doubles tournaments. In the men’s doubles, he and his brother Jamie Murray lost in the first round and the former World No.1 still had the mixed doubles alongside Raducanu.
Raducanu and Murray had agreed to play together, but on the day of their scheduled first-round match, the former pulled out citing wrist concerns. That automatically ended Murray’s last Wimbledon participation. There were heated debates about why Raducanu had withdrawn from the match to focus on the singles.
Also, Murray’s mother, Judy Murray slammed the former US Open champion for being selfish in her decisions. Since then, both have been quiet about the unreconciled issue. However, Murray was seen on Sunday (May 25) during Rafael Nadal’s farewell ceremony at the Roland Garros.
Raducanu revealed during her press conference that she now has a chance to meet the three-time Grand Slam champion and ask for forgiveness for her actions in Wimbledon last year, while also seeking some advice from him. She added that she still feels bad about it.
I hope he’s forgiven me for last year, I still feel bad about it. I’m looking forward to seeing him around and having a conversation. I think he would give great advice, he’s been in a similar situation and would probably understand a lot of things that I’m also going through. But as to anything more, I don’t know, that’s very far out of thought.
Raducanu reached the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championship before losing to Lulu Sun in three sets. On the other hand, Murray played his final career match at the Paris Olympics men’s doubles alongside Dan Evans. They lost to American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul 2-6, 4-6 in the quarter-finals.
Emma Raducanu says she’s comfortable with her coach’s schedule as commentator in Roland Garros
Emma Raducanu is currently partnering with Mark Petchey, who is her coach and a commentator at Tennis Channel. The 22-year-old first teamed up with Andy Murray’s ex-coach during the Miami Open and they achieved an instant success by reaching the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament.
