Emmerdale fans in disbelief over Dr Liam star's first role on soap after 17 years

Emmerdale enthusiasts were taken aback upon learning that Jonny McPherson had previously played a different character before stepping into the shoes of Dr Liam Cavanagh. Jonny joined the cast in 2014, assuming the role of the village's beloved doctor, Liam. Over the years, he has endeared himself to viewers and been at the centre of several key plotlines. From his numerous romantic liaisons to the heartbreaking demise of his daughter Leanna (Mimi Slinger), Liam's time in the Dales has been far from uneventful. Especially in February, when a gripping storyline involving a limousine crash had fans on edge, fearing that Liam might be written out of the show - fortunately, he wasn't. Liam has also reignited his relationship with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) after ending things with Ella Forster (Paula Lane), according to Belfast Live . However, the romance between Liam and Chas hasn't been smooth sailing, and following the upheaval and drama surrounding Ella, the pair reluctantly decided to delay their wedding this month. Interestingly, it seems that Liam wasn't Jonny's inaugural role on Emmerdale as he had made several appearances on the ITV soap prior. In 2008, he briefly graced the Dales as another doctor, Jonathan Boam – who came to the aid of Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth) after a car accident. This marked Jonny's first foray into television. Two years later, he was back on screen - this time as a nurse on duty the night Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) was hit by a train. Emmerdale fans have been left stunned after discovering the past roles of actor Jonny McPherson on the beloved soap. When an ardent Emmerdale fan page on Facebook shared a throwback photo of Jonny from an old episode, one user pointed out: "Jonny McPherson on Emmerdale in 2010." This revelation took other fans by surprise, as another replied, "Well I didn't know that." The sense of astonishment was widespread, with another commenter adding: "Same here there are so many actors in it now that played different people."
