Former Australia coach Darren Lehmann has tipped England to dominate their summer series against India, but predicts more Ashes misery Down Under.
The nine months are shaping up to be a defining period for the English Test team, with five games at home to an Indian side who thrashed them 4-1 in their own conditions last year followed by their attempts to reclaim the urn behind enemy lines over the winter.
Lehmann, who led the Baggy Greens between 2013 and 2018 and has now taken over at English county side Northamptonshire, expects mixed success - a rousing show on English soil followed by disappointment in Australia.
"England will win at home, that's just what happens," he told Sky Sports News.
"India are a good cricket team, but England will win. I've no fear of that. I don't think they'll lose a game this summer. For me, England will dominate and a put a lot of questions to bed...then they get to Australia where the real questions start.
"They haven't won a Test in Australia for something like 15 years (since 2011) so it's going to have to be a big turn around."
Echoing the views of David Warner, who said last week that England's favoured brand of ultra-aggression would fall flat on Australian surfaces, Lehmann added: "David knows the game very well. Bazball works on flat wickets, no question about that. As soon as the wicket does anything it doesn't really work.
"England are a very good cricket side to watch but it will be interesting to see if the pitches do a bit more. I can't see them performing under that sort of pressure in an Ashes."
