Enzo Maresca agrees with Chelsea fans despite major claim about £1bn squad

Enzo Maresca has claimed Chelsea fans are right to be “frustrated” by their domestic cup failures this season.
But the Italian head coach insisted his £1billion squad is not yet ready to compete for four trophies. Fourth-placed Chelsea return to Brighton in the Premier League on Friday after getting knocked out of the FA Cup at the Amex Stadium last weekend.
Maresca, 45, annoyed some Blues fans brought up on a diet of Champion League and Premier League triumphs by claiming they could now concentrate on the third-tier Conference League and the finishing in the top four. And the former Leicester boss responded: "They are 100 per cent fair and 100 per cent correct.
“I grew up watching Chelsea winning games and competitions but this Chelsea is not the same as that one. The reason why I said this is because we are not ready to compete in four competitions in one season at the moment.
"So we were completely unhappy after the game because we like to win games but, as I said, if there is something positive it is that we can focus on the two competitions that we have now. I know that probably after a while when the club is not competing for important titles, they feel a little bit frustrated. But they cannot think that suddenly (he clicked his fingers) we are competing for titles and winning titles.
"Our goal, our duty is to bring this club to win or compete in four competitions but at this moment we are not ready. Am I confident it will happen? Absolutely, yes. This is our goal. In the next five or ten years this club can compete, no doubt. But at this moment we are in a process to arrive in this position but we are not ready after six months together.
"There are clubs that have been together for three, four, five years but they still struggle. Why should Chelsea after six months should they be winning the Premier League, finish top four or win four competitions.”
Maresca added: "Don't forget in the last two years, Chelsea have never been top four and this year, we spent almost the entire year in the top four. This shows you and everyone that we are in the right direction. Now we will try our best to finish and bring this club to where it belongs to be - in the Champions League."

The Italian, though, likes a moving target. He refused to set any aims for the season after the FA Cup elimination. And yesterday he said: “The club never told me the target was top four. When I signed here, the target was in two years playing in the Champions League, not in one year. This is why I have said many times we are above my expectation.”
Maresca stated “it’s completely wrong” for Premier League teams to play on transfer deadline day after confirming to striker Nicolas Jackson, who suffered a hamstring strain against West Ham, will be out until after next month’s international break. Romeo Lavia is also out until then while striker Marc Guiu is not yet fit.
Christopher Nkunku unsuccessfully lead the line in the FA Cup defeat at Brighton. “We are trying to find other solutions,” said Maresca.
