Last week’s Sunday Independent/ Ireland Thinks opinion poll shows that the presidential election is still wide open. We have seen in past elections candidates who are frontrunners for a while tend to crash and burn under the intense spotlight of an election campaign. One candidate who does not look like he will be among the runners and riders is Conor McGregor. Just 7pc of respondents said they would vote for him. That in itself is not a problem; campaigns can often take off.
