ESPN analysts love Titans QB Cam Ward so much they accidentally compared him to Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels 'he doesn't care'

Ever since the Tennessee Titans drafted Cam Ward with the 1st overall pick, the lack of national attention on the next potential star QB has been apparent to everybody involved. Just because it’s nothing new for Titans fans to feel their team has fallen by the wayside, doesn’t make it any less surprising or annoying each time it happens. But on ESPN’s “This Is Football” with Kevin Clark, a great podcast with a great host who I personally endorse, Ward is regularly given his due. Does that have anything to do with Kevin being a Florida native and Miami alum? Impossible to say, really. But regardless, he has been one of the most prominent (and only) true champions of the Cam Ward experience the past year plus. He had fellow ESPN cohort Jeff Darlington on his show this past week, and they made a handful of glowing comparisons that are likely to fill your cup as a fan looking for some national Titans love. The conversation began on the topic of what makes a difference-making franchise QB. You should listen to their full conversation right here. “talking to even the Titans people after they did draft him, he fits exactly what that sort of model is, which is sort of low key in a lot of ways, but also he comes with this confidence and swagger that you should not dismiss” Darlington explained. “It's really cool. It's a very quiet confidence. It's amazing. I really liked being around him. This is like real genuine stuff. You could just feel that he's going to walk into a locker room and be that guy.” This is when the comparisons began to fly. “Similar actually to talking to (Commanders GM) Adam Peters before Jayden Daniels ever took a snap… the thing that Adam had said about that was like, Jayden resonated with veterans in a way that felt different. And I feel like Cam is going to be the same in the locker room.” We recently have heard tell of where Chicago Bears’ QB Caleb Williams’ mind was at before he was taken 1st overall in 2024. In excerpts from Seth Wickersham’s new book on quarterbacks, he chronicles both Caleb and his father’s reluctance to go to Chicago before the draft. But “for Cam Ward, he made it clear to that team, this is where I want to be” Darlington said. “Which I actually would say is sort of rare in this day and age, when being the best player means going to the worst team.” The next glowing comparison came from Kevin Clark, who said “number one is that Cam's demeanor, especially with the media, reminds me a little bit of Joe Burrow. Where he's going to do what's put in front of him. He's going to give people their five minutes or whatever. I'm sure you've had that before (Jeff). He's not going to be your best friend. He's not going to ham it up. He's not going to shake your hand. But what he cares about, both are very low-key guys, in a way I don't think most people expect. They'd rather be at home than be out, being the life of the party somewhere. And they care about their teammates. And they're great teammates.” And if Burrow and Daniels, doesn’t do it for you, here’s one last cross-sport comparison for you: “It's like Scotty Shuffler making the turn at the PGA” Darlington chimed in. You know, the undisputed best golfer in the world? “Honestly, it's not a million miles away from Scotty Shuffler where he's doing these things” Clark agreed, a big golf fan himself.
