David Moyes made an immediate impact at Everton upon his return, leading the club to the safety of 13th position. It’s clear the club need to strengthen to kick on into the top half of the league, and they have already signed Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz following his successful loan period with the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are now edging closer to completing a deal to sign Dutch defender Kenny Tete.
Everton Reach ‘Verbal Agreement’ to Sign Kenny Tete
Romano Reports Formal Steps to Follow Next Week
Between now and the end of the transfer window, there should be plenty of new arrivals at Everton. Naturally, with the departure of Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman’s contracting ending, though his exit is not confirmed, he will surely be looking to strengthen in the right-back area. This need has seemingly led Moyes to sign ex-Fulham defender Tete on a free transfer.
The update from Romano reveals a three-year deal is in place and the formal steps should be completed in the coming week, with Romano teasing his famous “here we go.”
Kenny Tete to Everton
Tete will be a sensible signing for the Toffees, bringing international and Premier League experience to a defence that has had its difficulties in recent seasons. With Young departing and Coleman seemingly on his way out there will be a lack of leadership, and someone with Tete’s experience will help solve it.
Of course, the Everton fans will want the club to improve in attacking areas, but defensive reinforcements will be equally important for the coming season. While Tete has had his injury problems during his career, it is a low-risk signing – and if the Dutchman can stay fit, it could prove a valuable move for the Toffees, who will be embarking on a new era at their impressive new stadium on Bramley Moore Docks.
