Ex-rival gunning for Katie Taylor rematch four years after heartbreaking loss
@Source: irishmirror.ie
Natasha Jonas is eyeing up a second rematch with Ireland's Katie Taylor, a fight which she claims is 'personal' to her. IBF and WBC Welterweight champion Jonas - who takes on WBA champion Lauren Price this Friday with all three titles on the line - is desperate for another crack at Taylor who has twice beaten her in the past. The Bray Bomber beat Jonas 26:15 on her way to winning gold at the London Olympics in 2012, and when the pair clashed on the professional ranks nine years later, Taylor was awarded the unanimous decision win by the judges in Manchester. While Jonas isn't taking up-and-comer Price for granted, she has already plotted out her next fight as her legendary 20-year career winds down. "I think the fight that's personal is Katie. Beat Lauren and whoever comes next - Mayer and Ryan are fighting, whoever wins that fight, that's for undisputed for us then," Jonas told Sky Sports. "Or go and fight Katie for undisputed. The two options are undisputed after that fight. Then that's pretty much me [done]. But I've got to get past Lauren first." Before any talk of a third fight with Taylor however, Jonas must get through Olympic gold medalist Price. The Welshwoman has been on a tear since debuting in 2022 after her success in Tokyo a year earlier and has already taken the scalp of Jessica McCaskill on her way to winning gold. Despite this, Jonas' coach Joe Gallagher is adamant that his student has the tools to get the job done against a rising star ten years her junior. "If you look at what Lauren brings to the table, if you look at her background and pedigree and the fighters she's fought, and the tools that she brings to the table, her catalogue of punches," Gallagher told Sky Sports. "And then you look at Natasha Jonas and the people that she's been in with and her catalogue of punches and shot selection - you [think] everyone's getting caught up in the hype here a little bit." We're not going away quietly. We've been in this position before, like with Terri Harper and we've come back," Gallagher said. "There's no pressure on Natasha, it's all on Lauren. "Here we are 2025 and she's putting herself on the frontline again," he continued. "Lauren's going to bring the best out of Natasha again. Lauren does things that we feel we can capitalise on."
