FA Cup final: the best pubs showing Crystal Palace vs Manchester City this weekend
@Source: standard.co.uk
South London club Crystal Palace take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday and Wembley is expected to be a sea of red and blue. The Eagles aren’t regular trophy hunters and bat below big spenders like City. They are the underdogs, but football fans across London are likely to get behind them. Aside from the Palace fan pubs around Selhurst Park — the Albion, the Clifton Arms, the White Hart and the Prince George (any unlucky Eagles without a ticket to Wembley will be at any one of these) — here’s where to watch Palace in action this weekend. If the weather’s fine, Between the Bridges is an excellent location thanks to its enormous outside courtyard. A huge screen is joined by decent street food and there are several bars to grab an easy drink before kick off and at half time. The place boasts a buzzy, collective atmosphere. The Queen's Walk, SE1, betweenthebridges.co.uk Clapham? Yes, it’s Palace playing, so South London makes complete sense. Every bit a football pub, there are plenty of screens, bar service is speedy, and the bowls of chips are generous when pints need soaking up. Here, some trivia: local side Clapham Rovers won the FA Cup in 1880, defeating Oxford University 1-0 at the Kennington Oval. 14 Clapham Common South Side, SW4 7AA, alexandraclapham.com Way up in Walthamstow is Big Penny Social, far from the madding crowd but you won’t want to leave when you get there. It’s a lively place to watch any match and the FA Cup final is no exception. Expect huge screens, loads of food and beer, and even though it’s north London, we’d wager most in situ will be getting behind the Eagles. They’re a London club after all. Priestley Way, E17 6AL, bigpennysocial.co.uk Flat Iron Square might be the place with the most televisions: 18, inside and out. Fan zones have been known to host celebrity appearances and there’s a tap room for beer and street food dotted around serving burgers, pizzas and more. 45 Southwark Street, SE1 9HP, flatironsquare.co.uk At Toca Social at the O2, experience an “immersive” football experience, with a penalty shoot-out game and various other activities. There are huge screens in communal areas, private ones in bookable rooms. The O2, Peninsula Square, SE10 0DX, toca.social Signature Brew sites are known to host football experiences in all forms and operate as inclusive, safe spaces to enjoy the beautiful game without some of the chaos that sometimes joins it. Various locations, signaturebrew.co.uk Every Bounce site, in Shoreditch, Battersea, and Farringdon, will welcome football fans in their droves for this Saturday’s showdown. Match day packages are in order, including one that includes two drinks, a seat to watch the game, and unlimited pizza. And then, of course, there’s ping pong in the downtime. Various locations, bouncepingpong.com This lively Finsbury Park pub has been a favourite among London sports fans for years now. Although primarily a rugby pub, the Fullback’s front room is a great place to watch football and gets packed out for big games, so expect it to be busy. Good real ales and food. 19 Perth Road, N4 3HB, falteringfullback.com The Famous Three Kings specialises in craft beer, cocktails and gins, while the kitchen offers tapas, pizzas, and steaks. The FA Cup final will be on. It has long been one of London’s most sport-dedicated pubs. 171 North End Road, W14 9NL, crafted-social.co.uk Bar Kick on Shoreditch High Street offers a friendly, engaging experience for fans in the area and remains one of the most popular settings for high-profile games, and this weekend’s match is huge. The main room, complete with football tables and large screens, suits itself to big groups. 127 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6JE, cafekick.co.uk You can always expect the football to be on at the Cross Keys, a traditional neighbourhood boozer in Hammersmith with a keen selection of beers and an outside space tucked away out back. 57 Black Lion Lane, W6 9BG crosskeyshammersmith.co.uk Found right around the corner from Camden Town underground station, the Camden Eye is one of the most dependable options for football in NW1. 2 Kentish Town Road, NW1 9NX, camdeneye.pub The Coat & Badge, a short walk from Putney Bridge station, is a good option for fans looking for a relaxed setting to enjoy this most majestic of games. Although during the final things might get more lively. 8 Lacy Road, SW15 1NL, thecoatandbadge.co.uk This Finsbury Park boozer is one of the best football pubs in North London. Punters will find Camden brewery and Meantime on tap, while big-screens in a couple of spacious rooms make it a good spot to watch the final. 23 Stroud Green Road, N4 3EF worldsendfinsburypark.com This Irish pub in the far reaches of Tottenham is as proper as they come, with good Guinness, a pool table and a fun crowd. Will Palace be on so far north? It's a friendly place and most of London and getting behind the Eagles. 158 Broad Lane, N15 4QJ, 020 8365 1899 Tucked away in a Balham side street, on the same road as Adele’s old school, is the Regent, a must for any football fans in SW12. The fish and chips aren’t bad. This is solid Palace territory. 21 Chestnut Grove, SW12 8JB, theregentbalham.co.uk Fancy watching football in an old and traditional London boozer replete with Greek-style sculptures? This one’s for you. 18 Great Queen Street, WC2B 5DG, herculespillars.co.uk
