A devastated family are being forced to leave their home of 12 years after their daughter was diagnosed with rare bone cancer. Little Sophie Fulton, 8, from Edinburgh , lost part of her leg last year due to an Osteosarcoma tumour in her knee. Although now cancer free, Sophie struggles with living in their first floor flat due to its 43 steps and lack of of accessibility for her wheelchair . The family, made up of mum Tracey , dad Stewart, sister Lilly, 2, and brother Bailey, 11, will now have to move despite years of happy memories. Tracey, 36, said: "We're heartbroken that we have to leave, but we know as a family it's the right thing to do for Sophie. "She got the all clear five weeks ago and we want to celebrate and focus on her recovery, but home life is hell. She can't even get her wheelchair through the doorway. "She has to bum shuffle through the house and she can't even get in the bath. "When she goes to school I have to bump her chair up and down 43 concrete stairs." Sophie had been training at Forrester Rugby Club when she twisted her leg leading to her limb swelling directly after the incident. When medics examined Sophie, her cancer was detected her pain failed to subside. The youngster went through a seven hour operation, removing the cancer but allowing her ankle to function as a joint with a prosthetic leg to be introduced at a later date. She also had nine months of gruelling chemotherapy. Occupational health nurses visited the family home to see what adaptations would need done, but unfortunately their property is not suitable for the type of changes that need to be made. The family were left with three choices - to leave Sophie alone in hospital to make her recovery, to move out of the family home relying on the council to find a suitable option, or sell their home potentially ending up homeless in temporary accommodation. Tracy added: "I have been bidding on council properties since May 2024 and nothing suitable has come up yet. "But when Sophie gets her prosthetic leg she will need space to recover. "I couldn't bear the thought of my child being alone in hospital. I lost my job because I had to take so much time off to look after Sophie. I don't know what we will do now ." The family are continuing to bid on council properties until something suitable comes up.
