Fans say Andy Robertson is ‘spot on’ as Scotland hero speaks out on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid transfer

TRENT Alexander-Arnold has polarised Liverpool supporters with the announcement of his departure.
Leaving on a free and looking set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid, TAA has some fans in fury asking why their homegrown hero didn't either choose to stay or work to create a situation where the Reds could get a transfer fee for the valuable player.
The Premier League champions played out a 2-2 draw with second-placed Arsenal yesterday which saw the departing English talent booed by a section of his own support.
But Scotland star and Pool teammate Andy Robertson has his back, as he's given a passionate defence of his long-time colleague.
When asked by Sky Sports about his opposite full-back of eight years, he said: "There’s a lot of emotion around it.
"It’s crucial in these moments that I don’t tell you how to feel and you don’t tell me how to feel about it.
"All I can tell you is how I feel about it. First of all, I’m disappointed to lose my best mate in the game, and we’ve done it all together.
"He's an amazing player and an amazing person.
"He’s made me a better player, that’s from the bottom of my heart.
"He's took me to levels I never knew existed. He kept pushing me through the good years and he’s made a choice.
"His legacy at this club is there for everyone to see, the trophies he’s won and the moments he’s had in history will always be there.
"It is an emotional decision and Trent... it’s not been an easy one. But he’s made the decision.
"It’s not nice to see a friend get booed and it wasn’t nice, but we can’t tell people how to act.
"I can tell you how I feel about it - I’m extremely proud of what he’s done for this club.
"I love him as a friend, I love him as a player and he’ll be missed as one of my best friends in the game.
"That's how I feel about it and I'm not going to tell anyone else how to feel about it."
The pair have won 10 trophies together including to league titles and two Champions Leagues.
Fans have been quick to take to social media praising the left-back's handling of the tricky situation.
"Brilliant response, emotional and articulate," one wrote, while another added: "Not a fan of Robertson but what a measured response."
"Make him vice captain and give him a deal til he retires for this interview alone," said one as the 'well said' and 'class act' replies also flowed in.
Manager Arne Slot was diplomatic in his response to the scenario, saying:
"In general and in life, the good thing about living in Europe is that everybody can have their opinion and that’s the same here in Liverpool.
"There were people that were not so happy with him.
"There were a lot of people who were happy with him, they clapped for him.
"A few of them booed. I think everybody is allowed to have their opinion."
