FC Genesis pulled off another big upset win in the Port Moresby Soccer Association’s (PMSA) premier men’s division by defeating City Strikers, 2-0.
Taking control of possession and utilising the windy condition to their advantage, FC Genesis came out on top.
They however had to work hard in defence by shutting down every goal scoring opportunity by the Strikers.
It was quite a high intensity matchup as both teams were determined to win to maintain their positions in the top four.
The breakthrough for Genesis came in the 58th minute when Brian Tomtadoga scored with a header after Strikers goalkeeper Bradley Ioubona lost possession following a direct free-kick outside the 18-yard box.
FC Genesis went back-to-back to score with another goal just two minutes later when a Bida Kaniyoisi power strike sizzled past several Strikers defenders and catching Ioubona off guard.
FC Genesis coach Emmanuel Liosi said: “The players are showing a lot of consistency and have strung up a few wins together.
“This is the beginning and already they are showing some good promise for the season ahead,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the other premier division men’s matches, competition leaders Murat NCD were held to a 1-1 draw by Blue Kumuls. Mungkas and University also ended their match 0-0, while Solomon United defeated PS Ruts 3-2 and Cloudy Bay defeated Momase 3-0.
