'Feels Good': Rishabh Pant Relived He Won't Face James Anderson And Stuart Broad

James Anderson and Stuart Broad took a combined 1308 wickets in Test cricket between them. 223 of these scalps were that of Indian batters. And in conditions conducive to seam and swing bowling, they were a class apart. So naturally, India batter Rishabh Pant, who knows the challenge of facing two of the finest fast bowlers in Test history, is relieved that he no longer will have to negotiate with their threat in England as both have called time on their respective international careers.
“Definitely, it feels so good when both (Anderson and Broad) are not there. Because coming from the last two tours, they’ve been there for England for so many years and I’ve only come for two tours,” Pant said while responding to a query on Wednesday ahead of India’s first Test against England in Leeds.
While England will miss two the two legends, Pant thinks their hosts have enough firepower in their bowling attack and India won’t take their relatively inexperienced pacers lightly.
“But at the same time, they have enough ammunition as an England bowling line-up. We don’t want to take anyone lightly because our team is also young. They’re still looking to develop themselves. But at the same time, we’ve got to play our cricket and respect the bowlers and opposition where it needs it,” he said.
India will face England in five-match Test series starting Friday which will also be the beginning of their campaign of the new ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Of the 19 bilateral Test series that India have played in England, they have managed to win just thrice with their last such victory coming in 2007.
Pant, who is also the India Test vice-captain, says the current group has arrived in England with a positive mindset and to win the series.
“It’s simple. Play positive cricket. But respect the conditions. We want to win this series. That’s the kind of mindset we come with always. We’re not thinking that we’re a young team. The kind of conversation we have in the group is how we can win this match, win this series, and how everyone can contribute,” Pant said.
“For us, it’s not about getting glory with individual players. It’s eventually because if the team wins, everyone wins. That’s the kind of thought process and that kind of mentality we want to take in future,” he added.
