The FIFA Male Young Talent Course for young referees from Member Associations is set to commence on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The capacity-building program, championed by FIFA, will run through July 29, 2025, and will feature forty (40) young referees selected from the Ghana Football Association’s flagship “Catch Them Young” refereeing project. These promising officials have been actively involved in major youth competitions such as the KGL Inter-Regional Championship and the Division One League Super Cup.
During the six-day course, participants will undergo a series of theoretical and practical evaluations. These include fitness tests, written and video-based assessments focusing on key refereeing challenges such as handball decisions, offside interpretation and overall game management. Additionally, referees will be involved in practical training sessions and mini matches, which will be used to assess and rank their performance.
The course will also feature a specialized lecture on physical conditioning, aimed at equipping the referees with essential knowledge on maintaining peak performance throughout the football season.
Head of the Referees Department of the GFA, Alex Kotey, is coordinating the Course, which is expected to enhance the skills of the young Referees and improve the quality of Refereeing in Ghana.
