Fiji media visits old parliament complex

Renovations to the old Parliament Building in Veiuto, Suva, have not commenced, says Ministry of Finance Construction Implementation Unit (CIU) assistant manager projects Seru Tagicakibau.

During a media tour of the complex last week, he said the four administration buildings at the Veiuto Court Complex had since been renovated.

“There were plans for phase two to upgrade the rest of the facilities but it really depends on the funding,” he said.

“We were held back during the COVID-19 pandemic so most of the funding was redirected to the Covid-19 assistance.

“We are just waiting for the next financial year for plans for the rest of the facilities.”

Parliament was suspended following the 2006 coup and the building has remained unoccupied ever since.

When the FijiFirst government took office, Parliament was relocated to its original location at the Government Buildings.
