Fiji U20 must finish strongly: Ravula

The SportWorld Fiji Under-20 rugby team needs to work harder in order to finish strongly in their final match against Samoa on Saturday. The Moses Armstrong-Ravula-captained side remains unbeaten in the Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge after they walloped Canada 56-24 at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park yesterday. However, for the second time in the competition, the Fijians almost blew away the big 42-7 lead at halftime. The Canadians had the better of the second half scoring 17 points while Fiji managed only 14. This was highlighted by Ravula at the end of the match. “The intensity dropped (second half), that’s going to be our main focus for the next game, that is finishing off the whole 80 minutes and not just the first 40,” the hefty hooker said. “We just wanted to start hard, and that’s what we did. It was a good game. The first half was unreal. We’ve got some unreal backs. The forwards laid down the platform and the set piece.” The hosts enjoyed the 42–7 lead with plucky halfback Adam Khan scoring two tries each with centre Bogidrau Kikau. Canada U20 captain Daragh Doyle said: “Fiji was a step above us with their physicality and speed. They had the willingness to play. We woke up in the second half so we did what we were capable of but it was just too late. “They (Fiji) were a better team and it shows that we still have a long way to go in our build-up to beat these better nations. We’re looking forward to play Tonga next.” The Fiji U20 side faces Junior Samoa on Saturday at 4pm while Tonga takes on Canada at 2pm. Feedback: waisean@fijisun.com.fj
