The Sportsworld Fiji Under-20 rugby team is in their last phase of preparations for the Super Rugby U20 competition in New Zealand.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, assistant coach Saiasi Fuli said the players are engaged in a centralised programme whereby the Western based- players assemble in Suva for training.
“We provide everything like accommodation and meals as they train in Suva,” he said.
“The objective of the week is that there’s a lot of clarity work and the integration of doing the core skill rotation including some conditioning work.”
Fuli said the overseas and local players have blended well in the squad.
“This is one of the youngest ever U20 squad to be assembled in Fiji. There’s no Junior World Trophy this year so our objective is to develop young players in terms of how they can adjust and adapt in competitive tournaments like the Super 20s next month,” he said.
“There are lots of players who are aged 17, 18 and 19. We want to develop them in a two-year programme that by the time announce the resumption of the World Rugby Trophy, we’ll be ready to go back and make our way up into the tier one competition.”
