A fire broke out in the hourly parking garage at Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) on Friday afternoon, prompting a full closure of the airport.Videos posted to social media show thick black smoke billowing from the structure as emergency responders worked to contain the blaze. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office blocked all inbound and outbound road access to the airport, and flight tracking service FlightAware reported that all inbound flights were being held at their origin until at least 1:30 p.m.The airport posted, "Due to a fire in the Hourly Garage, the airport is currently closed. JFRD is on-site working the issue. JSO has blocked inbound and outbound road access to the airport. Additional details will be forthcoming soon."As of early Friday afternoon, the cause of the fire and whether there were any injuries remained unclear.
