@Source: euroweeklynews.com
Madrid is playing host to the fourth stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup for the first time. From 8 to 13 July, over 300 elite archers from 49 nations will descend on the Vallehermoso Stadium and the Explanada Puente del Rey for a week of precision and fierce competition. This marks a historic moment for Spanish archery. As a final chance to secure places at the season‑ending final in Nanjing, China, stakes could not be higher. Champions from the previous three stages—Kim Woojin (men’s recurve), Li Jiaman (women’s recurve) and James Lutz (men’s compound)—will compete, though reigning women’s compound champion Sara Lopez will not be able to participate. Vallehermoso Stadium will host qualification rounds and eliminations. Finals will move to the scenic open-air Explanada Puente del Rey. With 336 competitors ranging from Olympic hopefuls to young talents, organisers expect to generate new fans, and maybe future champions. Madrid’s staging of this World Cup segment reflects the city’s ambition to expand its sporting repertoire beyond football, basketball and tennis. Coverage will be available worldwide via BeIN in MENA, CCTV in China, Claro Sports in Latin America, Fox in Australia and SpoTV in Korea, as well as on archery. Tickets are available through World Archery’s official channels and the Madrid venue ticket offices. This World Cup stage also brings opportunity beyond competition. Archers will conduct workshops and exhibitions for schools, fostering engagement with younger audiences. It is hoped that grassroots interest in archery will flourish as a result. For clubs and federations, the event is a springboard to build their presence across Spain. Spanish archery has enjoyed steady progress in recent years. Hosting such a prestigious event represents a vote of confidence in Spanish sporting governance and organisational capacity. It signals Spain’s readiness to bring more top-tier events to the country, tapping into a deeply rooted sports culture and modern infrastructure. As excitement builds towards 8 July, anticipation is high. Madrid’s hosts are ready to welcome the world’s best archers, backed by an enthusiastic local crowd eager to witness a new sport take centre stage.
