View this post on Instagram A post shared by Team India (@indiancricketteam) “Guys, we have got the full squad now. So I want to welcome everyone,” Gambhir began. “First Test calls are always special, so I want to welcome Sai, who has had a fabulous three months with the bat, and I’m sure you will have a very very successful red ball career,” the head coach said. “I want to welcome Arshdeep, who has been phenomenal in white-ball cricket and I’m sure with the red ball in hand, you’re going to make it count,” the southpaw added. Gambhir also had warm words for Karun Nair, who returns to the Indian fold after a prolonged period of time and lauded his attitude in making a comeback to the Indian Test side after an extended period of trials and tribulations. “Lastly, comebacks are never easy. Someone who has made a comeback after seven years, had a pehnomenal last year with the amount of runs you have scored. And most importantly, the never-die attitude, never giving up attitude is something that has got you back into the team and that is inspiring for the entire group. Welcome, Karun,” the former Indian opener added. Gambhir also congratulated newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill and iterated what an honour it is to lead your country’s Test side. “I want to congratulate Shubman as well, captain for the first time, there is no bigger honour in the country than to lead your Test team. Rishabh as well as part of the leadership group, congratulations,” he continued. Gambhir also welcomed Adrian Le Roux, who joined the team as the strength and conditioning coach “I want to welcome someone whom I have had the opportunity of working with at KKR for seven years, someone who I can vouch for. He is an unbelievable professional and a great human being, Adrian,” the Indian head coach added. Team India get the series against England underway on the 20th of June at Headingly, before subsequent fixtures at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford Cricket Ground and The Oval.
