The Malawi national football team, the Flames, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lesotho in their opening match of the COSAFA Championship currently underway in South Africa.
Lesotho scored the lone goal of the match in the second half, securing all three points in this Group B encounter.
Speaking after the game, Flames assistant coach Peter Mponda acknowledged the loss, admitting the team did not perform at their best. “We didn’t perform well, but the team still played well overall,” he said.
Malawi will face Namibia in their second group match on Sunday. The Flames are in Group B alongside Lesotho, Namibia, and Angola.
