The Revenue authorities on Wednesday relocated eight families to safer places in Maruthonkara panchayat in Kozhikode following a sudden rise in water level in the Kadantharapuzha, a tributary of the Kuttiyadi river.
Local administrators from the area said there were “unconfirmed reports” of a minor landslip in an uninhabited place near Pasukadavu, where the situation was being closely monitored. They also said that disaster management squads were prepared to meet any emergencies.
In the wake of heavy rain, District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh issued instructions to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles through the Thamarassery and Kuttiyadi ghat roads until further notice. He also directed local police stations to strengthen patrol on the routes and enforce regulations.
Meanwhile, squads of the Fire and Rescue Services and the Kerala State Electricity Board reviewed their preparedness to meet any emergencies on the instructions of the District-Level Disaster Management Authority. Village officers have been asked to monitor the emergency relocation requirements closely in landslip-prone areas. Revenue officials said a few families in Vilangad village would be shifted to safer locations in the wake of the flash flood threat.
