Viktor Gyokeres could be on the move this summer for £70million as Arsenal look to strike a deal with Sporting Lisbon and the former Swansea loanee is one of several players to prosper having been on the books of the Welsh side. The Swede's time at the Liberty Stadium was brief with Brighton allowing him to head out for the first half of the season back in 2021/22. From there he went on to Coventry, where he was productive in the final third before his switch to Portugal ignited his career. Throwback to a clash featuring Swansea and Millwall in south Wales in October 2020 and you'll see Gyokeres appear off the bench for the final 15 minutes. He'd only just moved to the club on loan but he shared the pitch with two other players, who were also there temporarily. Now, fast forward nearly five years, and that trio are worth close to £200m. Who knew that Swansea had such an eye for talent. Steve Cooper was in charge of the Welsh side and had overseen some impressive summer business which finished with Swansea being able to play in England's second tier with Gyokeres, Morgan Gibbs-White and Marc Guehi all on the pitch together. Some of Europe's top stars have dropped down a league as youngsters to develop and get more game time, but rarely does so much talent end up at one club before going on to be so highly though of. Gyokeres is one of Europe's most sought after striker after scoring nearly 100 times in two seasons in Portugal. Guehi has just captained Crystal Palace to the FA Cup having excelled since moving to the Eagles. He came through the ranks at Chelsea , which is when he went out on loan to Swansea, before finding a permanent home at Selhurst Park. The defender's contract is running out and he's tipped for a move to Liverpool . The Reds want to bolster their backline and want to strike a deal that could see Guehi, who has become an England regular, move to Anfield for around £35m, but Newcastle remain keen. Gibbs-White meanwhile has made himself one of the leading lights in a Nottingham Forest side that qualified for Europe last season. He was a Wolves player when he headed to Wales to further his development, but his stock has massively risen since then. So much so that Manchester City registered their interest which led Forest to slap a price tag on their forward which came close to £100m. Pep Guardiola has since gone in a different direction and Gibbs-White is set to remain in Nottingham. The Forest man, Guehi and Gyokeres only played a handful of games together with Swansea due to an injury that ruled Gibbs-White out for several months. The two frontmen spent around six months in Wales with Guehi spending the year at the club. Swansea would finish fourth, hardly surprising given the talent they had at the club, before going on to lose to Brentford in the play-off final. When Guehi left he said that he would "always be so grateful to Swansea whatever happens in the future. It’s a great club for young players.” Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
