@Source: newsweek.com
One AEW star is not long for the pro wrestling world or at least that is what a recent tweet that he sent out is implying. Swerve Strickland worked hard for years to make a name for himself and has made the most impact in AEW, where he has become a top star.Strickland has recently indicated a timeline for his wrestling career. Despite signing a lucrative contract extension in 2024, securing his presence in AEW until 2029.Strickland took to social media on March 26th to share a surprising message. He stated, "Yall got these next 5 years with me then I'm [peace sign emoji]. Enjoy the show," suggesting a potential retirement or significant career shift by 2029.Strickland's journey to AEW's main event scene has been a long and varied one. His professional wrestling training began in 2008 and later went to Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW). During his time in CZW, he established a reputation for intense matches and championship victories, laying the groundwork for his future success.He continued to build his resume with stints in promotions like Lucha Underground, where he performed as Killshot, and Major League Wrestling (MLW). In 2019, Strickland signed with WWE, where he became a key member of the "Hit Row" stable.Though his time in WWE was impactful, the group was released in November 2021. This setback, however, paved the way for his arrival in AEW in 2022. Since joining AEW, Strickland has achieved significant milestones, including winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship and, more recently, the AEW World Championship.More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon ConfrontationWhile speaking with VladTV for a recent interview, Strickland was asked whether WWE contacted him while he was in talks with AEW for a new year. He confirmed they did through his attorney."They reached out to my attorney. I don't really have too much direct contact when it comes to that discussion. When I signed the contract, there's a worked one, and then there's a shoot one. I signed the worked one at Wembley, right before me and Bryan Danielson main-evented. Tony [Khan] decided to do it in the Queen's box at Wembley where the Queen watches the games.He's like, 'This means something to be because this is one of the most proudest moments of my career.' Because him and his dad own the Fulham soccer team over there. He's like, 'This is crazy because this is where we won our playoff game, and we were right here, and I cried with my dad and stuff, right here in this box, and now you're the one signing this contract here. So this means something to me. I want it to mean something as big to you.'We did that one. Then they put that out there on social media and announced it. They were like, I got a text from my representation. He's like, 'Apparently, they reached out, and they asked if that was a real re-signing. They're like, is that real?' I think it was a couple days later, there was a report that went out that said I was paid above market value. Because there was a couple of people that were on re-sign, that were supposed to be re-signed or on a contract thing with AEW, and we all got re-signed, but they were like, 'Ugh, above market value.' I was like, 'Who are you to decide the market?'"Strickland is set to challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynasty.More WWE News: WWE Superstar Reveals He Was Asked To Change Physical Appearance WWE Has Big Plans for Alexa Bliss: Report WWE Hall Of Famer Returns In Backstage Role For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
