Mead tells students to balance school, sports and house chores PNG students are now privilege to be part of international rugby league community by balancing education with school’s rugby league sport. This was told to the Lae school students of Ama Demonstration Primary School by PNG’s very own international rugby league ambassador, David Mead during his visit to the city yesterday (Wednesday). The 37-year-old retired National Rugby League veteran encouraged students to balance school, sports and house chores “It’s vital for kids to stay in school because it increases their chances of make it through in life, and sports also gives opportunities for others, “So, its important for school’s and teachers to use NRL to encourage the importance of balancing school, sports health,” Mead said. He’ll be in Lae for two days (Wednesday and Thursday) visiting schools and communities to run mini and modified coaching clinic with students and other drills with the Lae Snax Tigers women’s team. The Australian Consul-General to Lae, Brenton Kanowski acknowledged the occasion highlighting the influence rugby league has in PG and both governments’ commitments to support it. “We will continue to support this sport in our local communities until PNGNRL team is fully established among other national teams out there,” he implied. Mead’s visit is part o fNRL Ambassador program supported by Pacific Rugby League Partnership (PRLP) between Australian Government and NRL to drive positive social change in PNG through the sport. Particularly in PNG this program is carried out through League Bilong Life (LBL) program that focuses on community campaigns that support Voice Against Violence and school rugby. The PRLP program provides opportunity for majority of skilful players that are not part of NRL teams, but are personate and talented in rugby around the pacific region including PNG.
