Former Syracuse wide receiver Zeed Haynes enters name into transfer portal (report)

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse wide receiver Zeed Haynes has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, signaling a potential desire to play college football again. Haynes left the Syracuse football team two games into last season and did not play again due to a “personal family” issue. He was around the program at points of the year, including receiving a warm welcome from teammates during the team’s game against Virginia Tech. When Haynes was not on SU’s spring roster, SU head coach Fran Brown indicated he had retired from the sport. Brown said that Haynes had “put his cleats” and was focused on the rest of his life. Brown reiterated that point during an appearance on the ACC Network on Thursday. He mentioned it while discussing how common it is for players to enter their names into the NCAA transfer portal. “I had somebody who wasn’t even on the team no more that was done,” Brown said during the appearance. “Said he didn’t want to play. Then he went in the portal.” Haynes, who is currently enrolled at Syracuse, was one of two receivers that followed Brown from Georgia before last season along with Jackson Meeks. He received rave reviewed from teammates during training camp but finished the year with eight catches for 97 yards. He caught one pass for 20 yards during his first year at Georgia. Haynes would have three years of college eligibility remaining unless he received a waiver.
