FOUR more amateur golfers have qualified for the 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open which tees off at Royal Harare Golf Club on Thursday.
The amateur quartet of Braydon Amm (-1), Terrance Keith (level-par), Nerudo Mregi (+1) and Shijie Li (+1)are part of the 10 golfers who booked secured their places in the country’s most prestigious golf tournament during a Pre-Qualifier held on Sunday at Royal Harare.
With an additional four, there are now 11 amateur golfers set to compete at this year’s edition with others being Tanaka Chatora, Michael Wallace, Keegan Shutt, Kelvin Muchenje, Darlington Chikanyambidze, Devon Valentine and Tawana Mangoma.
The other six golfers who qualified from the Pre-Qualifier are Liam Grehan (-2), David Meyers (-1), Tyrone Davidowitz (-1), Eric Wowor (level-par), Simon Murungweni (level-par) and Pierre Viallaneix (+1).
Zimbabwe based Li, who secured the final qualification slot in a dramatic play-off said it is an honour to have gotten the opportunity to play the Zimbabwe Open.
“Zimbabwe is my home so to be able to play the national Open is an absolute pleasure. It’s the most pressure I have ever felt (play-off) but I just had to stay patient and trust myself and play my own game and don’t worry about what they’re doing because anything can happen in golf. I just stayed composed and to get it done feels amazing,” he said.
This year’s edition of the Zimbabwe Open is scheduled to run from Thursday to Sunday with a competitive field of at least 144 golfers.
The tournament is also the 2025/26 Sunshine Tour season opener.
Title sponsors, FBC Holdings poured in US$200 000 in prize fund, making the Zimbabwe Open one of the top events on the Sunshine Tour.
