Four Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, are facing a potential ban for their Champions League quarter-final tie against Arsenal.
UEFA has opened disciplinary action against Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger, Vinicius Jr and Dani Ceballos for their conduct during Madrid’s celebrations at the Metropolitano Stadium after they beat Atletico Madrid on penalties in the last-16.
Rudiger is facing the harshest punishment after he was caught making a throat-slitting gesture towards Atletico’s supporters.
Mbappe, meanwhile, was seen goading Atletico fans and tapping the Madrid badge on his shirt
Vinicius was seen placing his Madrid coat on the pitch in front of the Atletico fans and pointing to the ground after the penalty shootout, while during the game the Brazilian winger was also seen gesturing to Atletico fans about the club’s failing to win a Champions League trophy.
Ceballos was caught on video making an obscene gesture to Atletico supporters as he left the pitch to walk down the tunnel.

A statement from UEFA on Thursday read: ‘A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to investigate allegations of indecent conduct by Real Madrid CF players (Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Daniel Ceballos Fernández and Vinícius Júnior) during the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF on 12 March 2025.’
Madrid will now present their arguments to UEFA in order to avoid punishment.
In 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo was fined €20,000 (£17,300) by UEFA for copying Diego Simeone’s ‘cojones’ celebration after Juventus’ win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Madrid are now due to play Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final at the Emirates Stadium on April 8.
The return leg at the Bernabeu will be played the following week on April 16.
