Paris, August 12 (QNA) - France on Tuesday called on the Israeli occupation to ensure safe and unobstructed access for foreign journalists to the besieged and devastated Gaza Strip, expressing regret over the heavy price journalists are paying in the territory.
Spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry Pascal Confavreux emphasized in statements the need for the occupation to allow foreign journalists to enter Gaza and work freely and independently to document the reality of the war.
He expressed his country's condemnation of the Israeli airstrike that killed a team of Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza while they were carrying out their journalistic duties.
He pointed out that nearly 200 journalists have been martyred in Israeli strikes since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, reiterating France's commitment to press freedom, freedom of expression, and the protection of journalists and media workers, and to never targeting journalists, especially as they are protected under international humanitarian law, just like civilians.
Reporters Without Borders, in a report published in early July, recorded the martyrdom of more than 200 journalists in Gaza since the start of the war on the Strip. (QNA)
