Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff's harrowing Top Gear accident has been revealed to the public for the first time in a trailer for his upcoming documentary, Flintoff. The 90-minute Disney+ original provides an intimate look at Freddie's life-changing crash and the resulting facial injuries that left him counting his lucky stars.
Footage from the trailer shows emergency responders by Flintoff's side on the roadside, evidence of how the open-topped, three-wheeled vehicle he was driving veered dramatically off course.
Flintoff reflects in the trailer: "I remember everything about it. It's so vivid. This is what I'm left with... I wouldn't say I'm embracing them but I'm not trying to hide my scars."
He speaks candidly about the reasons behind making the documentary now, expressing frustration over the speculation surrounding his life post-accident: "I'd lived under the radar for seven months, one of the real frustrations was the speculation, that's why I'm doing this now. What actually happened?"

Recalling his journey from being a reserved youth to becoming an England cricket icon and a fixture in the press, Flintoff discusses the emergence of his 'Fred' persona and the transformation into a public 'commodity'.
His world took a dramatic turn in December 2022 following the near-fatal incident while filming for Top Gear in a Morgan Super 3, reports the Mirror.
The presenter suffered broken ribs and severe facial injuries while filming a stunt for the BBC show. Flintoff's son, Corey, revealed at the time that his father was "lucky to be alive".
Freddie previously shared that he was "crying every two minutes" for weeks following the terrifying crash, experiencing flashbacks and nightmares about the near-death incident whenever he tried to sleep.
Former presenter Chris Harris expressed his concerns about the stunt before Freddie got in the car.

Speaking about Flintoff's accident, Harris said: "He wasn't wearing a crash helmet. And if you do that, even at 25, 30 miles an hour, the injuries that you sustain are profound."
"It's a very difficult car," he said. "You have to be aware of its limitations. And I think that really was difficult, and you need experience. There were two people that had driven a Morgan three-wheeler before present that day - me and someone else, a pro driver.
"And we were sitting inside at that time. No one had asked us anything about the car. They'd just gone on and shot it without us. "
Harris arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. He said: "I remember the radio message that I heard. I heard someone say this has been a real accident here. The car's upside down. So I ran to the window, looked out and he wasn't moving. "
The accident wasn't the first for Flintoff since he began hosting the show. The father-of-four had a mishap in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in February 2019 when he crashed into a market stall.
In September of the same year, he was involved in another crash during a drag race while filming at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, but luckily walked away unscathed. In June 2022, Flintoff experienced a bobsleigh flip at a course in Norway, but once again emerged from the incident without injury.

James Corden also appears in the new Disney documentary alongside Freddie's wife, who reveals in the trailer that her life too was forever altered following the crash.
During his BBC series, A Field Of Dreams, an emotional Freddie confessed that he "should not be here" after his Top Gear horror crash resulted in severe injuries and crippling anxiety that kept him housebound for months.
Reflecting on the December 2022 accident, Freddie shared how he found himself "crying every two minutes" for weeks afterwards, plagued by flashbacks and nightmares of the near-death experience whenever he tried to sleep.
The former cricketer revisits this painful period in a new TV documentary, which includes a home video showing his facial injuries at their worst - a deeply scarred and still shaken Freddie.
With a tremble in his voice, Freddie confided to the camera: "Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened. This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already. I need help. I really am not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes. "
The crash features in Freddie's new Disney+ documentary
He secured a settlement with the BBC last year, believed to be around £9m. Notably, the compensation did not come from the TV licence fee, as BBC Studios operates as the broadcaster's commercial entity. Flintoff had become a familiar face on BBC One's Top Gear, joining as a presenter in 2019 with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
However, following his accident, the programme has been cancelled. In March 2023, the BBC extended an apology to Flintoff.
They stated at the time: "We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery. We understand this [halting the show] will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we'll make a judgement about how best to continue later this year. " The series has not made a comeback since.
Prior to his television fame, Flintoff hung up his cricket gear in 2009 after a distinguished career which saw him play 79 Tests, 141 one-day internationals, and seven T20s for England, playing a pivotal role in England's Ashes victories in 2005 and 2009.
Flintoff will air on April 25 on Disney+.
