Paris, August 17 (QNA) - French President Emmanuel Macron has called for engaging the Europeans in any forthcoming summit on Ukraine, affirming that Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn't seek peace with Ukraine but wants it to capitulate. Should there be a belief that Putin wants peace, the compelling conviction is that he doesn't, because Putin wants the surrender of Ukraine, that is what he proposed, added Macron following a video meeting with the Coalition of the Willing supporting Kyiv. Macron expressed his desire for a robust and enduring peace that respects international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations. Reciprocally, Macron believes that US President Donald Trump pursues peace between Russia and Ukraine, adding that on the eve of his participation alongside several European leaders in the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting in Washington, the desire is to forge a unified front among Europeans and Ukrainians to ask the Americans how far they are willing to contribute to the security assurances for Ukraine in the potential peace deal. In addition, Macron showed his circumspection of Trump's suggestion to grant Ukraine protection akin to that enshrined in NATO without being a member of the alliance. He said the theatrical proposition is not enough, because the matter, the crux of it, is the core. There can be no discussions about Ukrainian territory without the Ukrainians, just as there can be no discussions about European security without them, Macron said.
