Both soaps, which have undergone huge changes throughout the start of 2025, have not made it into the Soaps and Continuing Drama category for the ceremony, which will take place on March 25 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London. In with a chance of securing a gong, however, will be BBC One’s EastEnders and Casualty, as well as Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. Over the past year, EastEnders has continued to air storylines that get the audience talking about important subjects. Also, as part of the lead up to their 40th anniversary, the BBC One soap treated us to some iconic returns including Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), David Wicks (Michael French) and Jane Beale (Laurie Brett). And in medical drama Casualty, fans said goodbye to Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson), as the show continued the highlight the harsh reality of what doctors and nurses face in NHS hospitals everyday. The changes at Corrie and Emmerdale have seen multiple cast members leave both shows. Last month, bosses concluded that 30 minute episodes attracted higher audience figures throughout 2024 and, as a result, a new broadcast pattern will be adopted from January. This means that Emmerdale will air Monday to Friday from 8pm, with Coronation Street following on the same days at 8:30pm in what has been dubbed as a ‘soap power hour.’ Both Corrie and Emmerdale have implemented a lot of cast changes this year (Picture: ITV) The huge changes will be marked with ambitious, never seen before stunts in a week of special episodes. There will still be a chance for Emmerdale and Corrie to pick up an award this year, however, as Jane McDonald returns to host the British Soap Awards. Last year, the British Soap Awards didn’t air, but it was confirmed at the time that the show would return in 2025. Jane has replaced Phillip Schofield as presenter, following his decision to quit ITV.
