Fulham star Antonee Robinson responds to Liverpool transfer links and makes family admission
@Source: mirror.co.uk
Fulham defender Antonee Robinson has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool, but has admitted his friends and family all hail from the city. Robinson, who was born in Milton Keynes before growing up on Merseyside, started his career with Liverpool's bitter rivals Everton - joining the Toffees as an 11-year-old - but never made a senior appearance for the club. He ended up joining Wigan Athletic in 2019 and earned a name for himself with the Lactics before Fulham signed him for just £2million in 2021. The 27-year-old, who plays for the United States national team through his father, has now rebuilt himself as one of the Premier League's top left-backs after a superb season for the Whites. Robinson has notched ten assists in the top flight under boss Marco Silva, putting him joint-second behind Mohamed Salah - level with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Brentford's Mikel Damsgaard. His performances have led to suggestions Liverpool could make a move for him - especially with left-back Andy Robertson guilty of some sub-par displays this term - but he refused to entertain any speculation. He told ESPN: "I’ve been in the game long enough now to kind of know you have to block out the outside noise and things like that because I’ve been on the end of it when I’ve not been playing well. I saw criticism when I was younger, seeing people doubting me and things. "So I know that there’s two sides to the coin. You just have to take everything with a grain of salt. You have to believe in yourself and when things are going bad, focus on yourself, and when things are going good, focus on keeping going." He acknowledged the talk about a move to Anfield and admitted that his family were from Liverpool, revealing that many of them had sent him stories linking him to Arne Slot's side. "Transfer rumours and stuff like that, I try not to look at," he added. "Especially like with the Liverpool one – all my friends and family are from Liverpool, so it’s more of them messaging me than me seeing newspaper stuff. And I have to say, 'Look, it’s just, just a story in the paper and anyone who’s doing well is going to get linked to a team'." Robinson has played 180 times for Fulham across five season, with 29 outings in this campaign. He has helped the Whites into tenth place in the Premier League and the team have a chance of securing European football. They are just five points off fifth-placed Manchester City.
