Gabby Logan issues public apology to club after interview slip-up

Gabby Logan has apologised to her rugby star son Reuben's new club after accidentally revealing he was signing for them ahead of the official announcement. The 19-year-old highly-rated back row forward, who currently represents Northampton Saints and Scotland U20s, has now been snapped up by Gallagher Premiership side Sale Sharks ahead of next season, with the move confirmed on Tuesday. However, BBC presenter Logan inadvertently broke the transfer exclusive days earlier in an interview with the Telegraph. Discussing the recent "big changes" in her life, having agreed to replace Gary Lineker as part of a new Match of the Day presenting trio from next season, Logan admitted she was open to a move up north to be close to the BBC's Salford studios and her son, who she accidentally revealed to be moving to the region himself. "I’m thinking of moving up north for Match of the Day – and no, Gary Lineker hasn’t offered me any tips!," she said. "It’s a joy to get to do something that you really enjoy and that still has such importance. Ten years ago it would have been a very different proposition, but my life is so different now. "Reuben is playing for Sale Sharks next season so I’ll be able to see him, and even Lois asked on our family Whatsapp 'Should we just all move to Manchester?' I love the North-west. I’m definitely not averse to spending more time there, so we’ll see how it goes." After the move was officially confirmed on Tuesday, a red-faced Logan took to Instagram to apologise directly to Reuben's new club, who cheekily referenced the slip-up in their announcement. "Thanks for announcing @gabbylogan," the club wrote as they shared a screengrab of the interview. "Catch you and Reuben up North for a brew soon." In response to the club's post, Logan wrote: "Sorry," with an embarrassed emoji, while she later issued a further apology by writing: "Sorry @salesharks, I let the cat out of the bag". After signing for Sale, Reuben said: “This is a great opportunity for me to play with and learn from some fantastic coaches and players – like the Curry brothers – who play in my position. “Sale have a young squad and I know a lot of the lads from playing international rugby. I know they’re all getting chances to play in the first team and that’s really exciting for me. I’m a physical ball carrier with the ability to create space and get the team on the front foot, and I think my style suits the team really well.” Meanwhile, the club's director of rugby Alex Sanderson said: “Reuben is one of those who was without a club after the demise of Wasps. He found himself at Northampton but for whatever reason, didn’t see a path to the first team there. “Given our style of play and his physical attributes, there’s a really bright future for him here if he keeps improving. He’s 120kg and he’s a physical specimen but he used to be a winger so he’s got wicked feet too. He can add to our game in terms of our power and we can help him develop his skills and his game. “He’s good mates with Tom Burrow and some of the other U20s lads, and as that young group develop and come through and make the first team shirts their own, he can be a part of that," Sanderson added. "It’s so exciting to see them all come through together because I think you learn the most from your peers. “His mum is doing Match of the Day so she’s in Manchester a lot, so his support base won’t be too far away. We’re really looking forward to seeing what Reuben can do.”
