The Gambian delegation comprised Minister Ebrima Sillah of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Matar Ceesay, Director of Transport Sainabou Houma, as well as the Managing Director and Technical Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA).
The Director General of the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and his team also contributed to the discussions on air transport virtually.
Key topics of the discourse included operational challenges at key infrastructure points like the Senegambia bridge, progress on joint road projects, and discussions around the domestication of air transport agreements.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to addressing shared challenges and advancing solutions that promote smooth, safe, and efficient movement across borders.
The Senegalese delegation included Secretary General Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Bamba Sy, Director of Transport, Monsieur Valdiodio Ndiaye, Director General of Air Sénégal, El Hadji Tidiane Ndiaye, Director General of Road Infrastructure, Momodou Alasan Camara, and Director General of Air Transport, Souleymane Gueye.
The bilateral engagement is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to foster strong regional partnerships and drive sustainable transport development for the benefit of both peoples and economies.
“The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure extends its appreciation to its Senegalese counterparts for the warm hospitality and productive discussions,” the Ministry stated.
The National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) officially issued an international airport certification to the Cap Skirring aerodrome, located in the Ziguinchor region, on Wednesday, according to the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
This development was presented by ANACIM Director General Ndiaga Basse to Cheikh Bamba Dièye, Director of Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), during a ceremony held at AIBD attended by several senior Senegalese civil aviation officials.
"AIBD successfully completed the process, with a satisfactory compliance rate, which led to the issuance of this certification," said Ndiaga Basse. He specified that the document is valid for a period of three years and now positions Senegal as the only country in the region to have two certified international airports. He also emphasised that the certification requires ongoing monitoring of the safety and security of the site in question.
For his part, Cheikh Bamba Dièye welcomed the recognition, describing the efforts made to obtain this certification as "excellent work".
He affirmed that this progress supports the State's initiatives in the civil aviation sector, while sharing his vision of making Cap Skirring Airport a true center of attractiveness and wealth creation.
