@Source: view.com.au
Magic Round occurs once a year, as the National Rugby League relocates to Brisbane for the weekend to play every match of the round. This year's Magic Round weekend will take place from Thursday, May 1 to Sunday, May 4. But what about some of the stars to be featured during this carnival of rugby league - are they kicking goals in the property world as well? We take a look at their portfolios. Read more: Tech millionaire the buyer of South Coast mega acreage James Tedesco The Sydney Roosters veteran fullback and wife Maria own an eye-popping Hunters Hill mansion. CoreLogic records show they purchased the two-level house in 2022 for $5.06 million. The home features five bedrooms, basement parking for three cars and an atrium that lets in natural light across both levels. It also features an open plan downstairs lounge, kitchen, family room, and an alfresco space with outdoor kitchen overlooking a glass edge pool. NSW representative and Camden junior "Teddy" has also proven to be an avid investor who owns a number of Western Sydney properties, including in Toongabbie and Menangle Park. Also, in 2023 Tedesco completed his boutique two-storey Lurnea townhouse project. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom townhouses were listed at $600 a week, with the three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouses seeking $700 a week. Tedesco off-loaded his Spring Farm building block for $670,000 in 2018, having paid $348,000 in 2013 after securing development approval for a four-bedroom house with granny flat. Kalyn Ponga In 2022, Newcastle Knights star Ponga added to his property portfolio after snapping up a Merewether home for $2.4 million at auction. The star fullback won the auction for a three-bedroom property set on 508 square metres. The 1930s weatherboard and tile home is within walking distance to Dixon Park Beach, Bar Beach and Merewether Beach. "Offering an abundance of potential to add value through renovations or the perfect opportunity to knock down and redesign your dream coastal home (subject to council approval)," the marketing stated at the time. At the time, it was said that the Queensland representative planned to eventually knock down the existing home and rebuild. Ponga's portfolio also includes a three-bedroom house in Charlestown snapped up in November 2021 for $950,000. CoreLogic records show it was most recently listed for rent at $775 a week in September 2022. Nicho Hynes The under fire Cronulla Sharks halfback has nonetheless made a significant acquisition in the property world. In 2023, Hynes secured his first home in the Sutherland Shire, snapping up a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Caringbah for $2.17 million. "Single level, double brick, beautifully renovated, a perfect rear north aspect... And a convenient, quality location within walking distance to schools, transport and shops - this special property offers everything that's often sought but seldom found," the marketing stated at the time. The single-level home has its living room separated from the kitchen and dining space by a two-way fireplace. Both areas open to an alfresco space, with swimming pool and spa. It also features self-contained accommodation next to the pool. The ex-Blues player snapped up the renovated 1950s home prior to auction. Stephen Crichton The leader of the competition-leading Bulldogs has also made some deft moves in the property world. In January 2023, as the star centre announced his departure from the Panthers, it was also revealed he had recently purchased a home in the Penrith area. CoreLogic records show the five-bedroom Tregear home, which sits on 620 square metres in a "whisper quiet, much sought-after" street was sold in December 2022 for $848,500. The home had been completely renovated, and Crichton reportedly bought the home for his parents and family. Clint Gutherson St George Illawarra fullback Clint Gutherson has reportedly based himself in Wollongong during his stint at at the Dragons, relocating his partner and daughter from the northern beaches of Sydney. The former NSW representative and partner Jesse Arena recently leased out their Collaroy Plateau home. The six-bedroom home was listed for rent at $3500 per week in December before coming down in January. The couple had built the home after they demolished the 1960s home that Gutherson bought for $1,875,500 in 2019. Gutherson, who was born in Mona Vale and began his NRL career with the Manly Sea Eagles, has kicked other goals in the property world. CoreLogic records show that in 2018, 'King Gutho' snapped up a three-bedroom home at Collaroy Plateau for $1.255 million. Records also show that he lodged a development application for an extension/alteration with a build value of $129,494 in 2020. In 2021, he scored a tidy profit on a Collaroy investment unit. The property was sold for $1.53 million, having been bought for $1.2 million in 2018. Records also suggest Gutherson bought a two-bedroom unit at Collaroy in 2014 for $600,000, which was later sold in 2018 for $770,000. Gutherson also owns an investment apartment in Mona Vale, which was bought in 2016 for $800,000. Nathan Cleary The Penrith halfback finds himself in unfamiliar territory at the moment, with the reigning premiers in the midst of a form slump. However, in addition to four premiership rings and State of Origin honours, Cleary has been successful in the world of property. Cleary bought a four-bedroom home close to the Nepean River from his father and Panthers coach Ivan in 2022 for $1.7 million. Cleary then undertook a renovation, with the property featuring his "chill room", a living area which flows into the outdoor balconies and barbecue area, as well as a pool and putting green. Ivan had bought the home in 2013 for $1.175 million. In 2018, Nathan paid $1.05 million for an updated 1970s Penrith home. CoreLogic records indicate he still owns the four-bedroom home. Earlier this year, Cleary sold an investment property in Penrith. Cleary sold the apartment for $660,000. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, located close to Penrith Station, had been most recently listed for rent at $650 per week, according to CoreLogic records. Cleary bought the apartment off-the-plan in 2016 for $595,000. Cameron Munster The Storm playmaker and Queensland mainstay has built a sizeable property portfolio during his decade of playing in the NRL. Munster owns multiple properties, including at least one in Melbourne (believed to be a $2.5 million-plus home in the suburb of Kew), as well as a series of investment properties in Queensland. Records indicate the investments include a three-bedroom home in Mooloolaba, which he purchased in May 2020 for $650,000. Munster also owns a four-bedroom home in Peregian Springs, which he bought in 2016 for $575,000. It was most recently listed for rent in December 2023 for $820 a week.
