HARARE, Zimbabwe – Another impressive fight back saw Ireland Under-19s Men get back into the game at Takashinga Cricket Club but just miss out during crucial moments.
For a change of scenery, the two sides were now playing in Takashinga Cricket Club where Game Five of the series would also be played.
Ireland batted first after losing the toss. There were three changes from the side that played in Harare Sports Club in Game Three of the series.
Sebastian Yeates came in the playing XI, along with Reuben Wilson and Thomas Ford. Out went Alex Armstrong, Peter Le Roux and Ethan Marshall.
Early on, Ireland found themselves in trouble at 40-1 and then suddenly 40-2 when Freddie Ogilby and James West were removed in succession.
At 91-4 in the 24th over, Ireland were in need of some additional momentum which then arrived in the form of Adam Leckey with his exceptional innings of 88 off 86 first to help build a total but also bring up the rate of scoring.
Sebastian Dijkstra continued his good form with an invaluable half-century that built a strong partnership with Leckey and bring Ireland to a defendable 241-6.
In response, Thomas Ford got an early breakthrough in the 8th over. However it wasn’t until the 28th that Ireland would get another – that man Dijkstra again.
James West’s leg-spin produced another wicket. A run out via Oliver Riley and Freddie Ogilby then almost put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Dijkstra continued to keep things tight during his ten overs with 1-34, including two maidens.
However Zimbabwe successfully negotiated their way through these moments of pressure to inch towards the finish line.
