@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
Detectives are hunting a gang of thieves responsible for a wave of high-value car thefts targeting luxury motors across Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Lothians and Borders. Between July 15 and 7 August, crooks stole a string of prestige vehicles, including BMWs , Audis and a Mini, taken from driveways in the dead of night. Police have confirmed they are treating the thefts as connected. The first incident happened in the early hours of 15 July, when a white BMW M340i and a black and red Mini Clubman were taken from Polwarth Terrace in Edinburgh between 2am and 3am. Weeks later, between the night of 4 August and the morning of 5 August, a white BMW X3 was stolen from The Orchard in Berwick-upon-Tweed. In the hours that followed, thieves struck in Newtongrange, Midlothian, stealing a black Audi A6 and a black Audi Q5 from Matthews Drive between 11.30pm and 12.30am. Around the same time in Norman McLeod Crescent, Glasgow, a grey BMW M4 and a grey BMW M3 Competition were taken. The spree continued into the small hours of 7 August, when a grey Audi RS3 was stolen from Gilsland Grange in North Berwick between 1am and 2am. Detective Sergeant Will Dickson said extensive enquiries are under way to trace those responsible and recover the stolen cars. He added that investigators believe the vehicles may still be in the Edinburgh area, although they could be displaying cloned or false number plates. “If you’ve seen any cars matching the make and model of those described and believe them to be out of place, or noticed any suspicious activity in relation to them, please get in touch,” he said. Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting the relevant incident number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
