Gautam Gambhir Breaks His Rule For Rishabh Pant: 'I Hate Talking About...'
@Source: news18.com
Two-time world cup winner Gautam Gambhir isn’t someone who likes to talk about individual performances, even if they are his own, in a team sport. He has time and again, quite vocally, despised the focus on individuals being credited for a team’s victory.
Gambhir though has broken his own rule thanks to the courageous performance from Rishabh Pant whose act, he feels, will inspire the generations ahead. Pant broke his foot while batting on the first day of the 4th Test between India and England but returned to bat on the second day and scored a half-century.
Pant seemed to be in unbearable pain after copping the blow on his right foot which was swollen as he inside-edged a low full toss from Chris Woakes while attempting a reverse-sweep. He was unable to walk and taken off the field in a golf-style buggy. Scans later revealed he has fractured his toe putting a major doubt over his participation in the remainder of the Test, let alone the England tour.
However, in a moment of grit and valour, the wicketkeeper-batter hobbled out to bat on the second morning of the contest, drawing a loud cheer and standing ovation from the Manchester crowd. He scored 57 before being dismissed.
In a stirring dressing room speech, Gambhir singled out Pant for inspiring the country.
“The foundation of this Test team will be based on what Rishabh you’ve done for this team,” Pant said. “I hate talking about individuals. I’ve never spoken about individuals in a team sport. You’ve not only inspired this dressing room, but you’ve inspired the next generation. This is what you’ve done.”

“And that is the legacy which you’ve created for yourself and for everyone in this dressing room. So very, very well done from everyone. And the country will be… is always… will always be proud of you,” he added.
Pant has been ruled out from the 5th Test due to the injury and has been replaced by N Jagadeesan in the squad.
