Riyadh, August 11 (QNA) - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed Monday Australia's intention to recognize the State of Palestine and New Zealand's announcement of its consideration of recognizing the Palestinian State.
In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi affirmed that this step represents significant support for the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people and embodies the principles and values enshrined in international conventions and resolutions.
Albudaiwi praised the principled and steadfast stances of both Australia and New Zealand in supporting the Palestinian cause and their commitment to strengthening the international community's efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
"This peace must be based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and resolutions of international legitimacy in order to guarantee the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital," he stressed. (QNA)
