Ghanaian defender Emmanuel Twumasi has penned down a two-year contract with Polish outfit, Piast Gliwice, earmarking a novel chapter in his football journey. The 28-year-old former Right To Dream Academy wing back joins the club as a free agent after leaving MLS side FC Dallas, where he became a household figure for over five seasons. The Right to Dream Academy graduate's journey begun when he earned a scholarship to Kent School in Connecticut where he stood out in various occasions and won the Gatorade Boys' Player of the Year in 2015. "Ema" as he is affectionately called, played two years of college soccer at Wake Forest University between 2017 and 2017 before leaving college to sign a Generation Adidas contract for the Major League Soccer (MLS) ahead of the Superdraft. From there, he had stints at Michigan Bucks and GPS Portland Phoenix, where he featured in the US Open Cup. Known for his adaptability and versatility, Ema effectively filled roles at right-back and on the wing during his time in the USA. This move marks a significant opportunity for Twumasi to revive his career in Europe, especially in the demanding setting of Poland’s top division. Piast, who ended last season in 10th place in the Polish Ekstraklasa, are currently under reformation and rebuilding with new manager Max Moelder. The 40-year-old Swede, who took over from Serbian coach Aleksandar Vukovic, arrives from Landskrona BoIS with plans to implement a youthful and energetic style of play. Twumasi is the club’s third acquisition of the summer transfer window, following the signings of French midfielder Quentin Boisgard and Spanish attacker Adrian Dalmau. With 12 players departing the club this summer, the door is open for Twumasi to make a strong impression and potentially earn a return to the Ghana national team.
