Giants trading Darren Waller to Dolphins after shock return from retirement

Darren Waller is coming out of retirement and heading to Miami.
The Giants are trading the former Pro Bowl tight end to the Dolphins, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.
Waller, who turns 33 in September, announced his retirement from the sport in June 2024 after one season with the Giants.
But he is “refreshed mentally and physically and ready to give it another shot,” Pelissero reported, adding that Waller told the Giants he wanted to play in the NFL again, but only if he could be in Miami.
The report noted Waller will sign an “adjusted, incentive-laden deal” to complete the trade.
The Giants’ return for Waller has not yet been reported.
Waller hauled in 52 catches for 552 yards and one touchdown with the Giants in 2023 after a five-year stint with the Raiders.
The Landover, Md. native spent the first two seasons of his career with the Ravens in 2015 and 2016.
He was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season – and for all of the 2017 season – for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy before joining the Raiders in 2018.
