Girls golf: Egg Harbor, Juliana Duggan win inaugural SJGCA Invitational
@Source: nj.com
It was a day to remember for Egg Harbor as it won the first-ever South Jersey Golf Coaches Association Invitational, shooting a 382 to defeat Southern by six strokes at The Union League National Golf Club in Cape May Court House. Juliana Duggan narrowly won the individual title, shooting an 84 to beat out Southern’s Samantha Reilly by two strokes. Duggan was one stroke ahead of Reilly heading into the final hole, but held on by parring it while Reilly hit a bogey. “The girls have been putting in a lot of work in our first season as a girls-only program,” Egg Harbor head coach Philip Maturi said. “They’re really starting to believe that it could be a special year. This is our second tournament title in as many weeks after we won the Atlantic County Championship last Tuesday. It was tough conditions and a difficult course, but the girls grinded all day.” Maturi lauded Duggan’s performance and credited her reliability on the course. “Julie always seems to come up big in these events,” he continued. “She never lets a bad swing rattle her. She keeps a positive attitude, but also seems to thrive under pressure and finds a second gear in the end.” Ocean City came in third place by shooting a 390, led by sophomore Lillian Flora who finished third with a 91. Masey Heenan placed fifth with a 94, while Ava Williams was sixth with a 96. Vineland finished fourth with a 409, led by Elena Buono who shot a 98 to place eighth. Millville was fifth with a 448.
