Girls golf: Pingry 3-peats as Somerset County champs, Feng sets new historic mark
@Source: nj.com
Like a fine wine, Pingry has continued to get better over the years. Not only did the Big Blue win its third straight Somerset County Tournament by 42 strokes at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, but junior Rayee Feng made history along the way. Feng captured her second career individual title by shooting 6-under-par 66 to set a new low score in the Somerset County Tournament. However, the top two spots will both read Feng as she also set the previous mark at four-under 68 in 2023. “It’s clear shooting a 66 and besting her incredible freshman score, Rayee is a remarkable athlete,” Pingry head coach Sean McAnally said. “She is also a terrific leader, through her focus and determination, she illustrates what it takes to achieve your goals. Rayee is a fantastic teammate, supportive, encouraging, and championing her teammates’ successes.” All four of Pingry’s golfers finished in the top 10 as Angela Liang tied Ridge’s Zoey Zhu for second place with a 71. Sahasra Datla placed eighth with an 83, while Julianna Zhang was ninth with an 85. “As a team, we continue to grow and improve with a strong core of sophomores rounding out the squad,” McAnally continued. “Angela tied for second today and is a picture of consistency. Being next in line after two phenomenal players can seem daunting, but through their hard work and determination, Sahasra and Julianna finished eighth and ninth, putting all our players in the top ten.” The Big Blue broke through in 2022 and defeated the then-defending champion Bridgewater-Raritan in a one-hole playoff. They followed it up by beating the Panthers again one year later by 33 strokes. Ridge came in second place by shooting a 347, while Bridgewater-Raritan finished third with a 362. Sophomore Yashvi Shah led the Panthers with a 77. Senior Season Wei led Watchung Hills to a fourth-place finish (393) by shooting a 74 to place fourth. The N.J.
