Girls golf Top 10, April 18: South Jersey event gives clearer view of area’s best

There was some maneuvering around in this week’s edition of the top 10, with a team making its way into the rankings with a win in the South Jersey Invitational.
Here are this week’s Top 10 rankings:
1-Holy Angels (9-0)
Previous ranking: No. 1
Here’s why: Holy Angels kept its top ranking after collecting two more wins to remain unbeaten.
The Angels defeated Old Tappan 151-204 after notching a 151-200 victory over Pascack Hills. Angelina Kim led it in both matches by shooting a 35.
2-Princeton (5-0)
Previous ranking: No. 2
Here’s why: Princeton remained in the second spot following its Red Devil Invitational win.
The Tigers started the year 5-0 following victories over Allentown, Bridgewater-Raritan, Notre Dame, West Windsor-Plainsboro North, and West Windsor-Plainsboro South. They have also been a force the last few seasons, compiling a 21-0 record since 2023.
3-Pingry (8-0)
Previous ranking: No. 4
Here’s why: Pingry climbed up a spot after winning three more matches against Hillsborough (176-251), North Hunterdon (173-220), and Hunterdon Central (182-226).
Angela Liang led the way for the Big Blue in each match, shooting a 37 against Hillsborough and 38 against North Hunterdon and Hunterdon Central to collect first-place finishes.
4-Moorestown (7-0)
Previous ranking: No. 3
Here’s why: Despite being without some of its top players in Katherine Liu, Lauren Patullo, and Savannah Laverty in the South Jersey Invitational, Moorestown still had a strong showing as it shot a 202 to finish 12 strokes behind Clearview for first place.
It was a mix of youth and experience that propelled the Quakers as junior Astor Broering it with a fifth-place finish, shooting a 46, while freshman Phoebe Wang placed 10th with a 49. Fellow freshman Shree Desai came in 12th with a 50, while junior Elena Ferri was 25th with a 57.
5-Ridgewood (10-0)
Previous ranking: No. 5
Here’s why: Ridgewood remained in the five spot after recording a pair of wins over Mahwah (166-250) and Dwight-Englewood (196-214).
Sophomore Sophia Oliver led the Maroons with a 37 against Mahwah, while senior Julia Vizanko carded a 38.
Drea Minetti led all golfers with a 40 for Ridgewood against Dwight-Englewood, while Oliver tied Dwight-Englewood’s Natalie Weil for second with a 43.
6-J.P. Stevens (3-0)
Previous ranking: No. 6
Here’s why: J.P. Stevens kept its momentum going after getting a 167-226 win over South Brunswick to remain unbeaten in match play.
Riya Lakhihal and Pooja Jade also tied for fourth place in the Mountain Ridge Invitational, shooting an 87.
7-Newark Academy (1-0)
Previous ranking: No. 7
Here’s why: Sophia Ha finished atop the leaderboard in the Mountain Ridge Invitational for the second straight year, shooting a 77 and beating out Passaic Tech’s Sofia Myka Pangan by three strokes.
The Minutemen’s two other golfers recorded top-10 finishes as Alexis Lee came in third with an 84, while Anya Balakumaran was seventh with an 89.
8-Clearview (8-0)
Previous ranking: NR
Here’s why: Clearview made its way back into the top 10 after picking up a win in the South Jersey Invitational.
The Pioneers were led by the Bernardis, as Lydia Bernardi shot a 44 to finish one stroke behind Mainland’s Kasey O’Brien for first place. Stella Bernardi carded a 45 to tie Haddonfield Francesca O’Neil for third.
Clearview also got support from Camryn Heil who shot a 47 to come in sixth, while Anna Lomonaco placed 17th with a 54.
The Pioneers are unbeaten in match play with wins over Cherry Hill East, Kingsway, Schalick, Washington Township, Shawnee, Our Lady of Mercy, Cumberland, and Schalick.
9-Wardlaw-Hartridge (2-1)
Previous ranking: No. 8
Here’s why: Wardlaw-Hartidge bounced back from a rare loss to East Brunswick, 168-169, by finishing four strokes ahead of it in the Red Devil Invitational, shooting a 379 to place eighth.
Nyah Roccamonte led the Rams in the invitational with an 82, tying Ridge’s Zoey Zhu.
Wardlaw-Hartridge also picked up wins against South Brunswick (195-263) and Old Bridge (174-210).
10-East Brunswick (2-0)
Previous ranking: No. 9
Here’s why: East Brunswick opened up its season with back-to-back wins, including giving Wardlaw-Hartridge its first loss since being reestablished as a program in 2021.
The Bears also defeated Old Bridge 174-212, with Dasha Patel and Tasneem Basrai tying for first with a 42.
East Brunswick finished ninth in the Red Devil Invitational by shooting a 383. Patel led it with an 84 to place 19th.
