Girls golf Top 10, May 2: Some musical chairs and a new team enter the fray

This week saw some shifting around with several tournaments taking place all over the state. Here are this week’s top 10 rankings: 1-Holy Angels (10-0) Previous ranking: No. 1 Here’s why: Holy Angels stayed in the top spot after finishing first place in the Bergen County Championships by 41 strokes. Ava Bang led the Angels with a first-place finish, shooting a 74, while Angelina Kim matched Inha Jun with a 76, with Kim taking second on a match of cards. Eleanor Lim placed seventh on a match of cards with an 80, while Olivia Lee was 10th with an 82. 2-Pingry (10-0) Previous ranking: No. 2 Here’s why: Pingry added another tournament win to its resume after repeating as Skyland Conference champions by 35 strokes. Rayee Feng made some history at Heron Glen Golf Course as she set a new Skyland Conference record by shooting 5-under-par 67 to win her second career individual title. Feng’s score surpassed the previous women’s record at the course (69), set by Colleen Dold. It was also four strokes shy of tying the all-time record, held by Chase Marinell. Angela Liang came in second for Pingry with a 71, while Juliana Zhang was sixth with an 85. Sahasra Datla finished ninth with an 87. The Big Blue also picked up a 167-203 win over Bridgewater-Raritan, led by Feng who shot a 35. 3-Princeton (8-1) Previous ranking: No. 3 Here’s why: Princeton continued its strong season with a win in the Colonial Valley Conference by 38 strokes. Jacqueline Zang led the Tigers with a first-place finish, shooting a 75 to win by three strokes. Princeton also picked up wins against Hightstown (174-239) and Allentown (190-207). Zang finished first against Hightstown with a 39. Kyuyoung Chung came in second against Allentown, shooting a 40 to close one stroke behind Allentown’s Charlotte Reid. 4-Moorestown (8-0) Previous ranking: No. 5 Here’s why: Moorestown moved up a spot after a week that saw it repeat as Burlington County Open and Carl Arena Memorial Tournament champions. Moorestown finished first in the Burlington County Open by 68 strokes, led by Savannah Laverty who shot a 73 to beat out her teammate, Lauren Patullo, for first place by five strokes. Macai Klein placed fifth with an 85. Moorestown won the Carl Arena Memorial Tournament by 18 strokes, with Laverty and Katherine Liu tying for first place with a 78. Patullo tied for seventh with an 83. The Quakers also captured a 172-222 win over Cherokee, led by Liu who shot a 39 to finish first. 5-Bergen Tech (8-2) Previous ranking: No. 9 Here’s why: Bergen Tech seems to be saving its best golf for down the stretch as it opened the season 3-2 before rattling off five straight match wins and placing second in the Bergen County Championships. Isabella Crespo took fourth on a match of cards, shooting a 76, while Olivia Pak was fifth with a 77. The Lady Knights also came in third place in the Big North Championship, led by Crespo who tied for eighth with a 76. 6-Ridgewood (13-1) Previous ranking: No. 4 Here’s why: Ridgewood suffered its first hiccup of the season after losing to fellow top-10 team Ramapo 162-179. The Maroons rebounded though by finishing three strokes ahead of the Raiders in the Bergen County Championships and placing third with a 358. Julia Vizanko took eighth place on a match of cards with an 80, while Drea Minetti was 13th on a match of cards with an 85. Ridgewood also picked up a 179-216 win against Mahwah, with Minetti leading the way with a 38. 7-Ramapo (9-2) Previous ranking: No. 10 Here’s why: Ramapo climbed up the leaderboard after picking up three straight match wins and finishing in fourth place in the Bergen County Championships. Skylar Lee led the Raiders in the tournament by shooting an 80 and taking ninth on a match of cards. Ramapo also captured a 162-179 win over Ridgewood, along with wins over Mahwah (162-216) and Demarest (169-201). 8-J.P. Stevens (6-0) Previous ranking: No. 6 Here’s why: J.P. Stevens remained unbeaten in match play following a 162-183 victory over Old Bridge. The top three spots included J.P. Stevens golfers as Riya Lakhihal and Anika Sawant tied for first with a 36, while Alexa Choi was third with a 38. 9-Clearview (12-0) Previous ranking: No. 8 Here’s why: Clearview moved up a spot after racking up a pair of wins over Delsea (187-243) and Washington Township (124-161). Lydia Bernardi led Clearview in both matches, shooting a 43 against Delsea and a 27 against Washington Township. 10-Ridge (7-2) Previous ranking: NR Here’s why: Ridge made its way back into the top 10 after finishing second in the Somerset County Tournament and third in the Skyland Conference Championships. Ridge’s two losses this season came at the hands of second-ranked Pingry. Despite finishing 16 strokes behind Bridgewater-Raritan in the Skyland Conference Championships, the Red Devils defeated the Panthers 179-182 earlier in the season. The N.J.
